The John H. Moss Scholarship is presented to exceptional undergraduate students in the Arts and Science programs at the University of Toronto across its various campuses (St. George, Mississauga, and Scarborough). This scholarship is designed to support those who plan to pursue a second degree or graduate studies. It highlights and rewards their outstanding academic performance and active involvement in extracurricular activities

One scholarship of $20,000 is awarded annually to a student who demonstrates outstanding academic and extracurricular leadership. Candidates who are interviewed as Moss finalists, but not selected as the Moss Scholar will be designated UTAA Scholars and will receive an honorarium and certificate in recognition of their achievements. Award recipients will be honoured at the Awards of Excellence ceremony to be held in the spring.

The Presidential Scholarship is valued at approximately $20,000 to cover:

  • Full tuition fee
  • Costs of international travel
  • Living expense (subsistence)
  • Books
  • Health insurance
  • Accommodation

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must meet the following:

  • be an undergraduate student in Arts and Science at the University of Toronto (St. George, Mississauga or Scarborough campus)
  • have a minimum grade point average of 3.3 (B+)
  • demonstrate outstanding academic and extra-curricular leadership
  • be in his or her graduating year and intending to pursue a second degree or studies at the graduate level.

Selection Criteria

One scholarship will be awarded to a superior all-round student graduating with an undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto.

The Selection Committee will give special consideration to:

  1. Overall demonstrated leadership beyond academic work
    1. Outstanding academic achievement
    1. Contributions and demonstrated impact both within the University and to the community outside of the University and
    1. College involvement and involvement in university activities.
