This scholarship will provide the following to its recipients:

- Annual research allowance of 460 euros
- Monthly rent subsidy
- Monthly family allowance (about 200 euros per child and 275 euros marriage allowance)

The fund (1,300 euros) can be used by the students to cover:
- Tuition fees
- Food
- Books & materials
- Local transportation cost

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following:
- Applicants must hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) that qualifies them for doctoral studies in Germany.
- Demonstrate strong academic and research ability, often supported by prior research experience, publications, or a compelling research proposal that aligns with the graduate school’s focus area.
- Applicants cannot apply directly to DAAD; instead, they must be nominated by a participating German graduate school that has been selected by DAAD for the scholarship round.
- The scholarship is open to international applicants who are not residents of Germany at the time of nomination.

Selection Criteria
Doctoral candidates are selected in a two-stage process.
- In a first step, the doctoral programs publicly advertise the GSSP scholarships and then select the doctoral candidates to be supported with a GSSP scholarship from the applications received.
- After the DAAD receives the nomination letters from the doctoral programs, the nominated candidates submit their application documents for formal review via the DAAD portal.
