Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Qualify academically for admission to the University of Edinburgh for a relevant degree programme (generally need equivalent of UK Second Class Upper Bachelor’s Honours degree or higher)
- Be residents and citizens or hold refugee status in a Sub-Saharan African country
- Have faced significant barriers to education (social, financial, personal, practical, or health-related)
- Have graduated from undergraduate study by September 2026 with degree certificate and official transcript
- Be 35 years old or under as of September 1, 2026
- Demonstrate a track record of leadership and service within their community
- Demonstrate experience or ambition in making meaningful impact in addressing the climate crisis
- For Masters applicants: Should not have previously completed a postgraduate degree
- For Diploma applicants: Can have either an undergraduate or Master’s degree from a Sub-Saharan African university
- Should not be enrolled (or apply to enroll) at a separate university whilst on the scholarship
- Female scholars, scholars from refugee and displaced backgrounds, and scholars with disabilities are particularly encouraged to apply

Selection Criteria
The selection process will consider the applicant’s academic qualifications and performance, including academic achievements, fulfillment of postgraduate entry requirements, and demonstrated capability for advanced study at a prestigious institution. It will also evaluate barriers overcome and resilience, such as significant social, financial, personal, practical, or health-related challenges faced in pursuit of education and career, along with the determination shown to succeed despite them. Furthermore, leadership and community service will be assessed through evidence of leadership roles, community involvement, and a commitment to creating positive change.
