The Laurentian University Scholarships are prestigious awards offered to talented students from around the world who wish to pursue their academic dreams in Canada. Laurentian University, located in Sudbury, Ontario, is recognized for its commitment to providing quality education in a bilingual and culturally diverse environment. These scholarships are designed to support both undergraduate and postgraduate students across all academic disciplines, making higher education more accessible to deserving candidates who demonstrate exceptional academic merit and potential.
Laurentian University began as Collège du Sacré-Coeur, established in 1913 by Jesuit Fathers in Sudbury. It became the University of Sudbury in 1957 and officially transformed into Laurentian University in 1960 through a provincial act creating a bilingual, non-denominational federation. This was called “the greatest experiment ever to be undertaken in Canadian higher education” due to its unique interfaith cooperation. The federation united three institutions: the University of Sudbury (Roman Catholic), Huntington University (United Church), and Thorneloe University (Anglican).
