The Taiwan Government Scholarships are prestigious fully funded scholarship programs offered by the Government of Taiwan to encourage outstanding international students to pursue academic degrees in Taiwan and promote bilateral exchanges and friendship. Two main scholarship programs are available:

  1. MOE (Ministry of Education) Taiwan Scholarship
  2. MOFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) Taiwan Scholarship

Both scholarships aim to attract talented students from around the world to study at Taiwan’s top universities while deepening their understanding of Taiwan’s society, culture, and academic excellence. Taiwan offers a vibrant academic community, modern infrastructure, safe living environment, and affordable cost of living compared to other developed countries.

International students must apply for these scholarships via the nearest Taiwan Embassy or Representative Office in their home country. These scholarships provide comprehensive financial support including tuition coverage and monthly living allowances throughout the duration of study.

Benefits of the Scholarships

MOE Taiwan Scholarship Benefits

  • Up to NTD 40,000 per semester for tuition and miscellaneous expenses
  • NTD 15,000 per month for undergraduate students
  • NTD 20,000 per month for graduate students (Master’s and PhD)

MOFA Taiwan Scholarship Benefits

  • Tuition and miscellaneous fees coverage
  • Monthly living allowance

Eligibility Criteria

General Eligibility (MOE Taiwan Scholarship)

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be a foreign national
  • Hold at least a secondary school graduation diploma (for undergraduate) or relevant degree for postgraduate programs
  • Demonstrate excellent academic record
  • Be of good character
  • Not be currently enrolled or registered at any university or tertiary college in Taiwan
  • Not be an exchange student or dual/joint degree student under academic cooperation agreements
  • Have never held a Taiwan Scholarship for a total of five years
  • Have never had a Taiwan Scholarship or MOE Huayu Enrichment Scholarship revoked
  • Not receiving any other scholarship or subsidy from any Taiwan Government agency or education institution in Taiwan

MOFA Taiwan Scholarship Specific Criteria

  • Primarily for students from countries with diplomatic relations with Taiwan
  • Students from other countries may also be considered
  • Must meet academic and character requirements similar to MOE scholarship
