The ENS International Selection Scholarship 2026 represents an extraordinary opportunity for talented international students to pursue world-class education at École normale supérieure (ENS-PSL), one of France’s most prestigious grandes écoles and a founding member of PSL University (Paris Sciences et Lettres). The competitive examination of the International Selection is intended for young graduates in Arts & Humanities as well as Sciences who justify at least one year of undergraduate studies in a foreign university and distinguish themselves with outstanding academic results.

The initiative provides comprehensive support through 10 positions in Sciences and 10 positions in Arts & Humanities annually, offering successful candidates the exceptional opportunity to join the community of normaliens and continue their studies at ENS and university simultaneously. Beyond simply covering living expenses, the ENS International Selection delivers comprehensive wraparound support including a €1,000 monthly grant for 3 years, accommodation in a room on one of the ENS campuses.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Must not be after their 26th birthday on December 1st of the application year
  • Be an international student from any country in the world
  • Must not have applied to the International Selection before
  • Must not have lived in France more than 10 months during the academic year of the selection nor the previous year
  • Must justify at least one year of undergraduate studies awarded by a foreign university during the calendar year preceding the start of applications
  • Must justify at least two years of undergraduate studies in a foreign university on September 1st following admission
  • Have outstanding academic results demonstrating excellence in previous university studies
  • Be driven by curiosity, open-mindedness, and a taste for research and innovation
  • Demonstrate intellectual freedom and interest in multidisciplinary learning
  • For Arts & Humanities applicants: Fluency in French is strongly recommended; disciplines include Anthropology, Archeology, Classical studies (Greek, Latin), Cinema, Theater studies, History of Art, Musicology, Cognitive sciences, Economics, Political studies, Geography, History, History and Philosophy of Law, History and Philosophy of Sciences, Linguistics, Literature, Philosophy, and Sociology
  • For Sciences applicants: Can apply in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Computing Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Cognitive Sciences
  • On rare occasions, the Director of ENS may authorize applications from candidates whose academic background is non-standard
