The initiative provides comprehensive support to outstanding candidates pursuing Doctor of Philosophy or Master of Philosophy degrees, with scholarships available through three distinct rounds including Merit-based scholarships awarded competitively across all disciplines, Project-based scholarships aligned to Adelaide University’s four Signature Research Themes (Creative & Cultural; Food, Agriculture & Wine; Personal & Societal Health; and Sustainable Green Transition), and Cohort scholarships focusing on research areas of strategic importance such as Defence and National Security.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Be an Australian Citizen, New Zealand citizen, Australian Permanent Resident, or International student
- Be eligible to apply for a visa to study in Australia (for international students)
- Apply for full-time Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Master of Philosophy (MPhil) research degree at Adelaide University
- Meet the academic and admission requirements for postgraduate research at Adelaide University
- Have completed at least the equivalent of an Australian First-Class Honours degree (this includes a significant research component)
- For PhD applicants: hold a relevant Bachelor degree with Honours or equivalent qualification
- For MPhil applicants: meet specific program entry requirements as outlined by the university
- Meet the English language proficiency requirements of Adelaide University (IELTS, TOEFL, or equivalent)
- Demonstrate strong academic merit based on previous academic records and research experience
- Show research alignment with Adelaide University’s strategic goals and research areas
- Not be receiving another award from the Australian Government intended to cover tuition fees
- Have minimum candidature remaining if currently enrolled: 2 years for PhD scholarship or 6 months for Masters scholarship (as of January 1 or July 1)
- Not have completed academic education mainly in Australia for some scholarship categories
- Only work completed prior to current graduate research program is considered for scholarship assessment

For Merit Round scholarships, applications are evaluated based on academic excellence demonstrated through strong academic records and research potential, quality and innovation of the proposed research project and its alignment with Adelaide University’s strategic research priorities and Signature Research Themes, relevant research experience including publications, presentations, and previous research contributions, strength of letters of recommendation from academic referees who can attest to research capabilities, and demonstrated commitment to research excellence and potential for significant contribution to the field.
