The Murdoch University 50-Year Scholarship 2026 is a special commemorative scholarship program launched to celebrate Murdoch University’s 50th anniversary while honoring its founding ethos of providing pathways into higher education for people who have historically been excluded from tertiary education opportunities. This scholarship initiative reflects the university’s unwavering dedication to supporting students from regional and remote areas of Western Australia who face unique challenges in accessing higher education due to geographic isolation, financial constraints, and limited educational resources. By offering fifty scholarships worth AUD $5,000 each, Murdoch University aims to break down barriers and provide meaningful financial assistance to students embarking on their first year of tertiary study, helping offset relocation costs, living expenses, textbooks, and other study-related expenditures that can be particularly burdensome for students leaving regional communities to pursue university education in metropolitan Perth.
Benefits of the Scholarship
This scholarship provides comprehensive support including:
- Cash award of AUD $5,000 for first-year undergraduate students
- Payment in two installments:
- AUD $2,500 in week 7 or 8 of first semester
- AUD $2,500 in week 7 or 8 of second semester
- 50 scholarships available across all undergraduate degree programs
- Direct bank deposit payments into student’s nominated account

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Be an Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident, New Zealand Citizen, or holder of a Humanitarian Visa
- Have relocated from a regional or remote area of Western Australia
- Have completed Year 12 in 2024 or 2025 and meet Murdoch University entry requirements
- Be commencing first year of tertiary study at Murdoch University in 2026
- Be experiencing financial hardship and/or personal hardship
- Must be enrolled full-time at Murdoch University
- Must have valid Murdoch Student ID to access online application form
- Submit complete online application with all supporting documents
- Provide personal statement explaining circumstances and financial/personal hardship
- Provide evidence of regional/remote address
- Maintain full-time enrollment and satisfactory academic progress

Selection Criteria
Selection is based on geographic background (relocation from inner regional, outer regional, remote, or very remote Western Australian location), financial and personal hardship (demonstrated need for financial assistance and evidence of challenging personal circumstances affecting educational access), completion of Year 12 (in 2024 or 2025 meeting Murdoch entry requirements), and first-year tertiary study status (must be commencing first year at university). The scholarship committee reviews personal statements and supporting documentation to assess the level of hardship and need.
