The 2026 National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic (NSP) is a prestigious government-funded mobility scheme established in 2005 and financed by the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic. Open to citizens of any country in the world except Slovakia, the programme supports short-term academic stays — ranging from 1 to 10 months — at public universities, private higher education institutions, and eligible research organisations across Slovakia.
Unlike degree scholarships, the NSP is specifically designed to fund academic mobility: incoming international students on semester/study visits, PhD candidates conducting supervised research, and university teachers, researchers, or artists on invited teaching, research, or artistic residencies.
Slovakia is a Central European country and a member of the European Union, the Eurozone, the Schengen Area, NATO, the UN, the OECD, CERN, and the Visegrád Group. With a rich cultural heritage, vibrant university towns such as Bratislava, KoÅ¡ice, and Banská Bystrica, and a growing research ecosystem, Slovakia offers international scholars a stimulating academic environment with excellent quality of life. Slovak public universities deliver education across a broad spectrum of disciplines, and the country’s EU membership makes study there a valuable step for students and researchers seeking European credentials and professional networks.

Selection Criteria
Candidates for the 2026 National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic are evaluated by SAIA’s Selection Committee based on the overall quality of the submitted application, the academic or professional merit of the applicant, and the clarity and relevance of the proposed study, research, or teaching activity to be undertaken in Slovakia. For university teachers, researchers, and artists, the strength of the formal invitation from the Slovak host institution and the academic or cultural significance of the planned stay are key factors. All applications undergo a two-stage review process: an administrative check for completeness and eligibility, followed by substantive evaluation by the Selection Committee. Only one application per applicant per call is permitted, and incomplete applications are automatically disqualified.
