The 2026 “Study in ZUEL” Freshman Scholarship is offered by Zhongnan University of Economics and Law to attract outstanding international students to pursue undergraduate, Master’s, or PhD programmes at one of China’s leading institutions. The scholarship provides comprehensive financial support — including free tuition, free accommodation, a monthly living allowance, and medical insurance — for the first academic year, with the opportunity to renew annually through the “Study in ZUEL” Current Students Scholarship based on academic performance and personal achievements. Open to students of all nationalities, this scholarship comes in two types — Type B and Type C — and reflects ZUEL’s commitment to building a diverse and internationally competitive academic community.

Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL) is a key national university directly administered by China’s Ministry of Education and a participant in the prestigious “Double First-Class” and “211 Project” initiatives. Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following:

  • Must be a non-Chinese citizen holding a valid foreign passport, with good character, a friendly attitude toward China, and no criminal record
  • Bachelor’s degree applicants must hold HSK Level 5 or above and have good academic performance in high school
  • Master’s and PhD applicants for Chinese-taught programmes must hold HSK Level 5 or above and have a GPA of 3.0 or above from their previous university
  • Master’s and PhD applicants for English-taught programmes must hold IELTS 6.0 or above, TOEFL 80 or above, or provide a certificate confirming their previous degree was taught entirely in English, and have a GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Must not be holding any other scholarship at the time of application
  • Each applicant can apply for only one major — applications for multiple majors will be considered invalid
  • Scholarship recipients must complete registration procedures on the date stipulated by ZUEL; failure to do so without prior approval will result in automatic cancellation of the scholarship

Selection Criteria

Eligible students for the 2026 “Study in ZUEL” Freshman Scholarship will be selected through a comprehensive review process that considers each applicant’s academic record, language proficiency, overall merits and personal achievements, research achievements where applicable, and comments from the prospective supervisor. Results will be communicated to successful applicants via email and published on the ZUEL International Education School website in July 2026.
