The 4WARD Graduation Scholarship at Eastern Michigan University (EMU) is one of the most uniquely structured undergraduate funding opportunities in the United States, and it is open to both domestic and international students. The concept is straightforward and powerful: students pay a locked-in tuition rate for their first two years of study and upon successfully completing those two years, EMU fully funds 100% of tuition for the remaining two years. This is not a competitive scholarship — every admitted student who meets the 3.0 GPA requirement and opts in is eligible, with no cap on the number of awards. The scholarship is designed to encourage on-time four-year graduation, reduce financial stress, and give students the stability to focus fully on their studies and campus life.

Eastern Michigan University, founded in 1849, is the second oldest university in the state of Michigan and one of the most affordable and best-valued institutions in the country. Located in Ypsilanti, Michigan, EMU serves approximately 20,000 students across more than 300 undergraduate and graduate programmes spanning the arts, sciences, business, education, health, and technology. EMU’s Global Tuition Rate eliminates out-of-state surcharges for all undergraduate students — including those from outside the US — ensuring that both domestic and international students pay the same in-state tuition rates, making it an exceptionally cost-effective choice for students worldwide.

Benefits of the Scholarship

This scholarship will provide the following to its recipients:

  • Locked-in tuition rate for Years 1 and 2 (approximately $17,352 per year for 30 credit hours)

Selection Criteria

The 4WARD Graduation Scholarship at Eastern Michigan University is not a competitive award — there is no limited pool of scholarships and students do not compete against one another for places. Selection is automatic and criteria-based: every admitted student who meets the minimum 3.0 cumulative high school GPA requirement and successfully opts in after receiving their admission offer will be evaluated solely on whether they satisfy the published academic and residential requirements. For Years 3 and 4 funding to be activated, students must demonstrate satisfactory academic progress by maintaining a minimum cumulative EMU GPA of 2.0 and completing at least 60 credit hours within their first two consecutive academic years, confirming their readiness and commitment to on-time graduation.
