The International University of Japan (IUJ) offers a wide range of competitive scholarships to support outstanding international students pursuing Master’s or PhD programmes at its Graduate School of International Relations (GSIR) or Graduate School of International Management (GSIM). Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis at the time of admissions and are matched to applicants based on the objectives of IUJ’s diverse portfolio of partner organisations, companies, and foundations — including the Asian Development Bank, AEON 1% Club, JERA Co., Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Marubeni Corporation, Mitsubishi UFJ Trust, and the Japanese Government (MEXT). Together, these scholarships reflect IUJ’s commitment to making world-class graduate education in international relations, development, policy, and management accessible to talented students from across the globe.

Benefits of the Scholarship
This scholarship will provide the following to its recipients (varies by scholarship type):
- Nakayama 100 Premium: 100% tuition fee waiver, partial admissions fee coverage, and a monthly stipend of ¥100,000
- ADB-JSP Scholarship: 100% tuition, partial admissions fee, monthly stipend of ¥144,000, airfare, and other allowances — for students from ADB’s 40 developing member countries
- JERA Scholarship: 100% tuition, 100% admissions fee, and a monthly stipend of ¥150,000 — for Master’s students from Asian countries
- Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Scholarship: 100% tuition, 100% admissions fee, and a monthly stipend of ¥150,000 — for Master’s students from African countries
- Marubeni Scholarship: 100% tuition, 100% admissions fee, and a monthly stipend of ¥150,000 — for students from 9 designated countries
- MEXT (University Recommendation): 100% tuition, monthly stipend of ¥144,000 (Master’s) or ¥145,000 (PhD), and airfare
- Other partial scholarships covering 30%, 50%, 70%, or 90% of tuition are also available through the Nakayama series

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for these scholarships, applicants must meet the following:
- Must apply to and be admitted to a degree programme at IUJ’s Graduate School of International Relations (GSIR) or Graduate School of International Management (GSIM)
- Scholarship eligibility varies by provider — some scholarships are open to all international students while others are restricted to students from specific countries or regions (e.g., ADB member countries, African countries, Asian countries, or specific designated countries)
- Most scholarships require recipients to be on a Japan Student Visa
- The ADB-JSP Scholarship is open to 2-year Master’s and DXP students from one of ADB’s 40 designated developing member countries
- The AEON Scholarship is open to 2-year Master’s students from one of AEON’s 11 designated countries
- The MEXT with Embassy Recommendation requires applicants to contact their nearest Japanese embassy or consulate approximately 1.5 years before their intended start date to begin the preliminary screening process
- Scholarship applications must be submitted as part of the IUJ Online Application form during Phase 2 of the application process, by the relevant admissions deadline

Selection Criteria
Qualified students for IUJ Scholarships will be selected on a competitive basis at the time of admissions. The Admissions Committee considers scholarship awards alongside admissions decisions, matching applicants to the most suitable scholarship based on each partner organisation’s objectives, the applicant’s academic merit, country of origin, programme of study, and overall profile as presented in the admissions application.
