The Hubei Provincial Government Scholarship is a comprehensive funding program established by Hubei Province to attract outstanding international students and promote educational exchange, cultural cooperation, and international ties. With initial funding of 35 million yuan (approximately US$5 million), the scholarship supports studies at over 120 higher learning institutions across Hubei Province—one of China’s most developed regions for education and scientific research. Participating institutions include prestigious universities such as Wuhan University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology (both ranked in China’s top 10), along with 7 key universities listed in the National 211 Project.

Hubei Province, located in central China with Wuhan as its capital, is a major hub for higher education and innovation hosting approximately 1.4 million undergraduate students and 103,000 postgraduate students across its institutions. The province offers programs spanning all major disciplines including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, management, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, and art. Wuhan, known as the “Chicago of China,” sits at the intersection of the Yangtze and Han Rivers, providing students with access to rich cultural heritage, modern infrastructure, and numerous research opportunities. The scholarship program aims not only to support international students financially but also to cultivate talents, advance scientific research, enhance social services, and facilitate cultural exchanges between China and countries worldwide, positioning Hubei as a globally recognized destination for international education.
