Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following:

  • Must be a non-Chinese citizen with valid private ordinary passport (Chinese nationality holders are ineligible even with foreign passports; eligibility determined by Exit and Entry Administration)
  • Must be in good physical and mental health, meeting medical examination requirements
  • Must have no criminal record and maintain friendly attitude toward China
  • Must be well-behaved and willing to comply with Chinese laws, regulations, and SJTU rules
  • **Master’s applicants:** Must have bachelor’s degree or equivalent accepted in China
  • **PhD applicants:** Must have master’s degree or equivalent accepted in China (certain schools accept bachelor’s degree holders for direct doctoral entry—check specific program requirements)
  • All admitted students must obtain valid degree or official Certificate of Accreditation from Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) before online registration
  • **Master’s degree applicants:** Must be under 35 years old
  • **Doctoral degree applicants:** Must be under 40 years old
  • Must satisfy Chinese or English proficiency requirements specified in Language Requirement for SJTU International Graduate Programs (see attachments)

Selection Criteria

SJTU graduate scholarship selection is highly competitive and conducted through comprehensive evaluation of academic excellence and research potential.
