For the 2026/2027 academic year, the RCA offers over 400 financial awards through multiple scholarship routes designed to remove financial barriers and promote diversity in creative education. The scholarship program operates through two primary pathways: automatic academic merit scholarships awarded to high-performing applicants in Rounds 1 and 2, and comprehensive need-based and underrepresented group scholarships requiring a separate application.

Founded in 1837, the Royal College of Art is the world’s only entirely postgraduate art and design university, occupying a unique position in global creative education. Located across multiple campuses in London—including Kensington, Battersea, and White City—the RCA provides unparalleled access to the UK’s vibrant cultural sector including museums, galleries, design studios, fashion houses, technology companies, and creative industries.. With approximately 1,500-2,000 students from over 60 countries, the RCA maintains an intensely creative, internationally diverse community where students work alongside leading practitioners, industry partners, and world-renowned faculty.

Selection Criteria

The RCA employs a multi-faceted scholarship selection process that varies depending on the scholarship route, with all assessments prioritizing creative excellence, potential for impact in art and design fields, and alignment with RCA’s mission to support diverse, talented individuals regardless of financial circumstances. For academic merit scholarships, selection is determined entirely by the quality of applicants’ RCA program applications, with assessors evaluating portfolio strength, creative originality, technical skill, conceptual depth, and innovation potential; written statements demonstrating clear research interests, understanding of chosen field, and articulation of how RCA study aligns with creative goals; interview performance (where applicable) showcasing critical thinking, ability to discuss work intelligently, responsiveness to feedback, and fit with program culture; and overall application coherence showing readiness for intensive postgraduate creative study.
