The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) International Scholarship Program represents one of Germany’s most comprehensive and values-driven funding opportunities for talented international students and doctoral candidates committed to democracy, human rights, and social engagement. Funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, KAS supports approximately 300 international scholars from over 50 countries across all continents who aspire to study or conduct research at German universities.
Founded in 1955 and named after Germany’s first post-World War II Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung is one of Germany’s largest and most influential political foundations affiliated with the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). International scholars can study at any German state-recognized university or University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule/HAW) across all disciplines except human medicine, dentistry, and medical specialization programs. Germany offers exceptional advantages for international students including world-class universities consistently ranked among global top institutions, minimal or no tuition fees at public universities (in most federal states), safe and welcoming environment, strong economy with excellent job prospects, central European location enabling easy travel, and vibrant cultural life.

Selection Criteria
The KAS International Scholarship selection process employs a holistic, values-centered approach that equally weighs academic excellence, social engagement, character, and alignment with KAS’s mission to strengthen democracy and human rights globally. Unlike purely merit-based scholarships, KAS selection emphasizes the “whole person”—scholars who will not only succeed academically but also serve as responsible leaders and bridge-builders between Germany and their home countries.
