The DIMEC Study Abroad Grant is a competitive financial award offered by the Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences (DIMEC) of the University of Bologna to currently enrolled students of the single-cycle Master’s degree programme in Medicine and Surgery at the Forlì Campus, enabling them to undertake a substantive educational or clinical experience at a foreign university, hospital, or research institution for a period of between 30 days and six months during the 2026 academic year. The grant is designed to support the internationalisation of medical education at the Forlì Campus by financing part of the costs associated with a student’s approved study or clinical placement abroad covering accommodation, travel, and subsistence expenses through a variable financial award calculated on the basis of the duration of the stay and the destination country.

The University of Bologna Alma Mater Studiorum is the oldest university in the Western world, founded in 1088, and one of Europe’s most prestigious institutions of higher learning. The DIMEC (Dipartimento di Scienze Mediche e Chirurgiche) is one of the university’s leading medical research departments, covering all major areas of clinical medicine, surgery, and biomedical sciences, and it operates across multiple campuses including Bologna, Imola, and Forlì. The Forlì Campus offers the single-cycle Medicine and Surgery degree in a smaller, more community-oriented academic environment while fully benefiting from the global reputation, research infrastructure, and international partnerships of the broader University of Bologna system making it a unique and highly attractive option for medical students who value the combination of rigorous clinical training, international mobility support, and the personal attention that comes with studying at a human-scale campus within one of Europe’s greatest universities

Selection Criteria

The scholarship selection is based on a 100-point evaluation system. The committee assesses the quality and relevance of the proposed mobility project (up to 40 points), the applicant’s academic record including credits earned and grade average (up to 50 points), and whether the student has not previously received international mobility funding (10 points).
