The Polonista NAWA Scholarship Programme is a prestigious mobility scholarship funded by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA), designed to promote the Polish language and culture worldwide by enabling international students and researchers to study or carry out research projects in Poland. The programme is open to two distinct groups: students of Polish philology, Polish studies, or Slavic studies with a Polish language focus who wish to spend one or two semesters at a Polish university, and researchers from foreign universities and research institutions who wish to conduct research projects of three to twelve months in duration at Polish academic and scientific institutions. Researchers receive a monthly fellowship of PLN 7,500, while students receive a monthly scholarship based on the NAWA stipend rates, with both categories additionally receiving living allowances and travel support. Before applying, all candidates must contact a Polish university and obtain a Declaration of Host Institution confirming agreement to host their studies or research, as the programme is administered through the NAWA online portal and applications may be submitted in Polish or English.

Poland is one of Central Europe’s most dynamic and rapidly developing academic destinations, with a centuries-old university tradition, a growing number of internationally recognised research institutions, and a vibrant academic community that is deeply connected to European and global scholarly networks. Warsaw, Krakow, Wroclaw, Poznan, and Gdansk are home to world-class universities with strong humanities, social sciences, and Polish studies faculties, and Poland’s EU membership, excellent quality of life, and relatively affordable cost of living make it an increasingly attractive destination for international researchers and students. The Polonista programme reflects NAWA’s commitment to building a global community of scholars who understand and appreciate Polish language, culture, and history, and to ensuring that Poland remains a leading centre for Polish studies scholarship at the international level.
