The King Salman International Award for Disability Research is one of the world’s most prestigious and financially significant international research awards in the field of disability, established by the Government of Saudi Arabia through the King Salman Center for Disability Research and the Research, Development and Innovation Authority (RDIA), and carrying a total award value of USD $133,000. The award recognises outstanding scientific contributions across five specialised branches of disability research, covering health and medical sciences, educational and psychological sciences, rehabilitation and social sciences, technical applications in the field of disability, and universal access, and is open to individual researchers, scientists, and organisations from all countries worldwide who have produced distinguished, authentic, and innovative scientific work that has made a significant and measurable impact on the quality of life of persons with disabilities.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this award, applicants must meet the following:
- Must be a scientist, researcher, or entity (individual or organisation) who has made distinguished scientific contributions in one of the five branches of disability research
- Scientific productions submitted for the award must adhere to recognised scientific methodology and must be characterised by authenticity, leadership, and innovation, providing scientific additions with significant impact on the applicant’s field of specialisation
- The submitted scientific production must fall within one of the five award branches as stipulated in the award regulations
- The submitted scientific production must not have been previously submitted for another similar international award
- Previous winners of the award are not eligible to be nominated again until at least five years have passed since their previous win, and must submit a different scientific production from the one for which they were previously awarded
- Employees of the King Salman Center for Disability Research and members of the award authority or committees are not eligible to be nominated
- All scientific productions submitted for the award must have been published in refereed and reputable scientific journals

Selection Criteria
The King Salman International Award for Disability Research selection process is conducted by a scientific committee of distinguished international experts who evaluate each submission on the basis of the quality, originality, and scientific impact of the submitted research production. Academic excellence and innovation are fundamental, with the committee assessing the degree to which the submitted work demonstrates authenticity and leadership in its field, the significance and measurability of its contribution to improving the lives of persons with disabilities, the rigour of the scientific methodology applied, and the extent to which the findings have been applied to real-world research practice or policy. Only submissions that clearly demonstrate a significant impact on the applicant’s field of specialisation, as evidenced through publication in refereed and reputable scientific journals and through demonstrable application of the research to disability practice or services, are considered competitive for the award, with the secretariat under no obligation to return submitted scientific productions regardless of the outcome.
