The Karnten Healthcare and Nursing Scholarship 2026 is a funded opportunity offered for the Bachelor of Science in Health Studies – Healthcare and Nursing program in Austria. It is especially designed for career changers and mature students looking to enter the healthcare profession. The scholarship provides €5,000 in the first year (paid in two instalments), €500 per completed semester, and full or partial tuition coverage throughout the three-year program. Applications for non-EU/international students close on 15 March 2026, with a general deadline of 15 July 2026 for the Winter 2026 semester intake.
The scholarship is hosted at Kärnten University of Applied Sciences (FH Kärnten / CUAS), a practice-oriented institution located in the southern Austrian region of Carinthia. Known for its strong connections with hospitals, clinics, and regional healthcare partners, CUAS offers small class sizes and a curriculum where roughly 50% of learning takes place in real healthcare settings. Graduates earn a Bachelor of Science in Health Studies (BSc) with the professional title of Diplomierte/r Gesundheits- und Krankenpfleger/in (Graduate Nurse), positioning them well for employment across Austria and the broader EU, where qualified nurses are in high demand.

Selection Criteria
The selection process evaluates applicants on a combination of academic eligibility, personal motivation, and professional potential. The university reviews your academic qualifications and scholarship fit, and may contact you for clarification or additional documents. Strong preference is given to career changers and mature applicants aged 30+, where life experience, responsibility, and resilience are treated as strengths rather than drawbacks. A personalized motivation letter that connects your background and personal story to the program plays a key role, alongside a solid CV that highlights any volunteer or work experience in hospitals, clinics, NGOs, or community health settings, as well as soft skills like communication and teamwork. Applicants who can clearly demonstrate long-term commitment to working as a nurse in Austria or the EU after graduation are likely to stand out in the selection process.
