The Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarships and Leadership Programme is one of the University of Oxford’s most prestigious and distinctive fully funded graduate scholarship programmes, established in 2015 to mark the 95th birthday of Lord Weidenfeld and significantly expanded in 2017 following a £9 million donation from Trustee and Chairman André Hoffmann, matched by £6 million from Oxford University. The scholarship covers 100% of course fees and a grant for living costs of at least £20,780 for the full duration of the student’s fee liability for the agreed course, and uniquely combines financial support with a comprehensive year-long Leadership Programme featuring philosophical discussions, business skills training, communication development, long-term mentoring, and networking within a cohesive scholars community.

The University of Oxford is the oldest university in the English-speaking world, consistently ranked as the world’s number one university in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and among the top five globally in all major international rankings, with an unparalleled tradition of academic excellence spanning more than nine centuries. Oxford’s graduate programmes combine the intellectual rigour and research intensity of a world-class research university with the intimate and supportive academic environment of the collegiate system, giving Weidenfeld-Hoffmann scholars access to exceptional faculty, cutting-edge research infrastructure, and a globally connected network of over 250,000 Oxford alumni in every country and sector in the world.

Selection Criteria

The Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarships selection process is highly competitive and assesses each candidate on outstanding academic excellence, demonstrated leadership potential, and a clear and compelling commitment to contributing to public life in their home country or region. Academic performance is fundamental, with the selection committee reviewing the Oxford graduate application alongside the dedicated Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarships Statement, which must articulate the connection between the proposed course of study and the applicant’s longer-term career objectives and vision for impact in their home country or at a wider regional or international level. Shortlisted candidates may be invited to interview as part of the selection process, and scholarship decisions are expected to be communicated by the end of May 2026, with the programme unable to provide individual feedback or contact unsuccessful applicants due to the high volume of applications received each year.
