The AUEA Braithwaite-Thompson Graduate Research Award is a prestigious annual award offering up to two grants of NZ$10,000 each to support international graduate students enrolled full-time in a Master of Engineering (ME), Master of Operations Research (MOR), or PhD in Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering and Design at the University of Auckland, Waipapa Taumata Rau. Established in 2007 by Ray and Joan Thompson, the award was created to support innovative graduate research in engineering and to foster international relationships through the university. Applications are submitted online, outcomes are determined by a selection committee, and successful applicants are typically notified approximately eight weeks after the closing date of April 23, 2026.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following:
- Must be an international student (non-New Zealand citizen or permanent resident)
- Must be enrolled full-time in a Master of Engineering (ME), Master of Operations Research (MOR), or PhD in Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering and Design at the University of Auckland
- Must apply online through the University of Auckland’s scholarship portal by the closing date of April 23, 2026 (midnight); all sections of the application form, including any reference or endorsement requests, must be completed by the closing date
- Must read the official award regulations carefully before applying to confirm eligibility
