The Kate Edger Foundation – Dame Dorothy Winstone Doctoral Completion Award is a prestigious award of up to NZ$16,000 offered three times per year at the University of Auckland, designed to support women doctoral students to make substantial progress towards the completion of a PhD or named Doctorate. Established in 2012 and funded by the Kate Edger Foundation, the award enables eligible recipients to have at least four months free of employment remaining or becoming a full-time student so they can dedicate concentrated time to completing their doctoral qualification.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following:

  • Must identify as a woman and be enrolled in a PhD or named Doctorate at the University of Auckland
  • Must have completed a minimum of three years of full-time study or six years of part-time study towards the doctoral qualification at the time of application

Selection Criteria

The Kate Edger Foundation – Dame Dorothy Winstone Doctoral Completion Award is assessed by the Kate Edger Foundation Trustees, who review all eligible applications across each of the three annual rounds with particular attention to the applicant’s progress towards doctoral completion, the merit and quality of their doctoral research, the clarity of their plan for how the award period will be used to make substantial progress towards completion, and the demonstrated need for financial support to enable a period free from employment; three awards are made per round, and all candidates are strongly advised to read the official award regulations carefully before applying to ensure they meet all eligibility requirements and understand the terms of the award.
