The University of Auckland International Student Excellence Scholarship is a prestigious merit-based award established in 2016, offering up to NZ$10,000 towards compulsory tuition fees for new international students enrolling in undergraduate degrees, postgraduate diplomas, or master’s programmes of one year or more at the University of Auckland, Waipapa Taumata Rau. Up to 50 scholarships are offered bi-annually across two intake rounds the first closing April 1, 2026 for Semester 2, Quarter 3, and Quarter 4 entry; and the second closing October 21, 2026 for Semester 1, Quarter 1, and Quarter 2 entry with the main purpose of attracting high-calibre international students to one of New Zealand’s and the world’s leading universities.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following:
- Must be a new international student enrolling at the University of Auckland for the first time
- Must be enrolling in an undergraduate degree, postgraduate diploma, or master’s programme of one year or more at the University of Auckland
- Must apply online through the University of Auckland’s scholarship portal by the relevant closing date — April 1, 2026 (Semester 2/Quarter 3/Quarter 4 intake) or October 21, 2026 (Semester 1/Quarter 1/Quarter 2 intake) — at midnight; all sections of the application form, including any references or endorsements, must be completed by the deadline

Selection Criteria
The University of Auckland International Student Excellence Scholarship is awarded through a competitive selection process in which a committee reviews all eligible applications submitted by each intake’s closing date, with selection based primarily on the academic calibre, achievement, and overall merit of each new international student applicant assessing their prior academic performance, the strength of their application, and their potential to contribute to and thrive within the University of Auckland’s academic community; with up to 50 scholarships available across two annual rounds, applicants are strongly encouraged to review the official regulations carefully, check the application form early for any required references, and submit a complete and compelling application well before the midnight deadline.
