The Chatham House Academy Fellowships 2026–2027 are prestigious 10-month in-person fellowship positions offered by the Queen Elizabeth II Academy for Leadership and the Next Generation at Chatham House, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, London. Four fellowships are available for the 2026–27 cohort: the New Generation Europe Academy Fellowship (open to Russian citizens/dual citizens), the Mo Ibrahim Foundation Academy Fellowship (open to citizens/dual citizens of any African country), the Richard and Susan Hayden Academy Fellowship (open to citizens/dual citizens of any country), and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Academy Fellowship (open to Greek citizens/dual citizens). Fellows will conduct independent research on global regions or policy themes, contribute to Chatham House’s research and events, collaborate with a global network of experts, policymakers and practitioners, and participate in the Leadership Masterclass Programme.

Benefits of the Fellowship
This scholarship will provide the following to its recipients:
- Monthly stipend of £2,565 for London living expenses (including accommodation, utilities, food and transport)
- Relocation costs: travel, accommodation support and visa fees
- Visa sponsorship (T5: Temporary Work – Government Authorised Exchange), if required
- UK Immigration Health Surcharge (excluding dental/optical care and prescriptions)
- Research expenses relating to fieldwork, outreach, events and publications
- Participation in the Academy’s Leadership Masterclass Programme, including leadership seminars and workshops, media training, writing support, and career coaching/mentoring

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following:
- Must have completed a bachelor’s degree at the time of application, or have equivalent professional experience
- Must meet the specific eligibility requirements of the fellowship being applied for
- Must have experience conducting independent research
- Must have relevant background experience in the field of the proposed research
- Must demonstrate proven leadership experience or potential
- Must demonstrate a commitment to Chatham House’s mission, goals and values
- Must be motivated to engage fully in the programme
- Must demonstrate proficiency in English
- Research proposals must align with Chatham House’s published research focus areas

Selection Criteria
The Chatham House Academy Fellowship selection process is competitive and based on assessment of each applicant’s research experience and the quality of their proposed research, relevant professional background in the field of proposed research, demonstrated or potential leadership capacity, commitment to Chatham House’s mission and values, motivation to engage fully in the 10-month programme and its leadership components, and proficiency in English; applications are reviewed on a rolling basis from the time the role opens, early submission is strongly encouraged, and all applicants will be notified of the outcome within four weeks of the role closing date of April 17, 2026.
