The 2026 Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust Masters Scholarships at the University of Sheffield are designed to support talented and academically strong students from developing countries who wish to pursue postgraduate study in international development-related fields. Offered in collaboration with the Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust and the Sheffield Institute for International Development, these scholarships recognise academic excellence and a commitment to improving the lives of others through international engagement. Three scholarships are available for the 2026/27 academic year, covering full tuition fees and a generous maintenance stipend.

Benefits of the Scholarship
This scholarship will provide the following to its recipients:
- A full tuition fee waiver for the duration of the Masters programme
- A maintenance stipend of £12,500 to support living costs during study

The maintenance stipend can be used by recipients to cover:

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following:
- Must hold an offer for one of the following courses at the University of Sheffield for the 2026/27 academic year by Friday 8th May 2026: International Development MSc, International Law and Global Justice LLM, International Political Economy MA, Global Journalism MA, or International Public and Political Communication MA
- Must be classified as an overseas student for tuition fee purposes
- Must not already hold a qualification equivalent to or higher than the course applied for
- Must not have previously studied outside their country of residence
- Must be self-funded and not in receipt of funding from any research council, government body, private enterprise, charity, or similar organization
- This scholarship cannot be combined with any other University of Sheffield or external funding awards
- Must be studying full-time and must begin studies in September 2026 — the scholarship cannot be deferred
- Must be permanently domiciled in one of the eligible low or lower-middle income countries as classified by the World Bank in 2025 (including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Ethiopia, and many others — see the full list on the official webpage)

Selection Criteria
Qualified students for the 2026 Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust Masters Scholarships will be selected based on a combination of strong academic profile, a clear and well-articulated rationale for pursuing postgraduate study at the University of Sheffield, demonstrated work experience in the field of international development, and a clearly expressed sense of future ambitions that shows how their postgraduate learning will benefit others. Where applications are of equal standing, priority will be given to underrepresented groups.
