The NYU Stern Climate Economics Journalism Fellowship is a unique and highly valuable professional development opportunity designed to bridge the gap between the rapidly evolving field of climate economics and the journalists who cover it for global audiences. Recognising that climate change is transforming the economy as quickly and profoundly as it is reshaping the planet, the fellowship brings a carefully selected cohort of journalists to NYU Stern’s iconic Greenwich Village campus in New York City for two intensive days of academic sessions, discussions, and social events led by globally recognised faculty from NYU Stern’s Climate Finance Initiative. Participants engage with fundamental factors and the latest trends in climate economics and finance, gaining the analytical depth and conceptual vocabulary needed to translate complex economic and financial shifts into clear, accurate, and compelling journalism.

NYU Stern School of Business is one of the world’s most prestigious and innovative business schools, consistently ranked among the top business schools globally and home to a remarkable faculty of economists, finance scholars, and policy experts at the forefront of research in climate finance, sustainable investing, carbon markets, and the macroeconomics of climate change. Selection Criteria

The Climate Economics Journalism Fellowship selection process is based on the overall quality of the application, with the selection committee evaluating each applicant’s journalistic experience, demonstrated engagement with climate and environmental topics, and the potential of the fellowship to meaningfully enhance their climate coverage. Academic performance and economics background are not selection criteria, as the programme is specifically designed to provide this knowledge to journalists regardless of their prior familiarity with economics or finance. Strong applicants are those who present a compelling cover letter that clearly articulates their motivation for participating in the fellowship and the specific ways in which a deeper understanding of climate economics will strengthen and enrich their journalistic work, supported by work samples that demonstrate the quality and reach of their reporting on climate or related topics.
