The ICANN Fellowship Program is a fully supported fellowship offered by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), designed to strengthen the representation of the multistakeholder model by fostering opportunities for individuals from underserved and underrepresented communities to become active participants in the global Internet governance community. Fellows are exposed to the workings of the ICANN community, are assigned a dedicated mentor, and receive training across different areas of knowledge and skill building before, during, and after an ICANN Public Meeting, with travel assistance also provided to attend the meeting in person. The programme supports approximately 45 participants per ICANN Public Meeting, including newcomers, returning alumni, and mentors, and a successful candidate may receive fellowship support up to three times throughout their engagement with the ICANN community.
ICANN is a nonprofit public benefit corporation formed in 1998, whose mission is to help ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet by coordinating and supporting the unique identifiers that allow computers to find one another across the world. The ICANN Fellowship Program draws participants from a wide variety of backgrounds including civil society, government, country code top-level domain operators, academia, business, technical, security, and end user groups, reflecting ICANN’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity across all regions and sectors. Through the fellowship, ICANN enables promising individuals to build the knowledge, skills, and connections needed to contribute meaningfully to global Internet policy development and the operation of the Domain Name System, with the ICANN87 Annual General Meeting fellowship application round currently open until April 19, 2026.

Selection Criteria
Applications are reviewed by a Selection Committee made up of representatives nominated by ICANN’s Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees, who assess each application based on four criteria: diversity, experience, ICANN knowledge and engagement, and potential for future engagement, with priority given to candidates from underserved and underrepresented communities who demonstrate financial need, and with the Selection Committee also considering the need for regionally diverse candidates from a range of sectors including those that lack diverse representation within the ICANN multistakeholder community.
