The MEXT Scholarship (Embassy Recommendation) is a fully funded scholarship offered by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities. Under this scheme, applicants first apply through the Japanese embassy or consulate in their home country, where they undergo document screening, written exams, and interviews. Successful candidates are then recommended to MEXT for final selection. Its main aim is to foster international exchange and strengthen mutual understanding between Japan and other nations by supporting talented students to study and conduct research in Japan.

Asia Pacific University (APU) is a private institution established in 2000 and located in Beppu, Ōita Prefecture. It stands out for its multicultural environment, about half of its students and many faculty members are from overseas—spanning approximately 90 countries. APU offers various graduate programs, including Development Studies, Data Science, Sustainability, Management, and more, all conducted in English. The multicultural ethos and bilingual education system (English and Japanese), combined with a broad international community, make it an attractive choice for global-minded graduate students.

The scholarship covers the following:

  • Full admission fee
  • Full tuition fees
  • Monthly subsistence allowance of 144,000 JPY
  • Accommodation
