The University of Glasgow Sanctuary Scholarship is a fully-funded award created specifically to support individuals with Refugee or Asylum Seeker status who are currently residing in the United Kingdom and hold an offer to study at the University of Glasgow for the 2026/27 academic year. The scholarship is open to both prospective undergraduate and postgraduate taught students beginning in September 2026 and covers full tuition fees for the duration of the programme for those unable to access mainstream student finance through SAAS or Student Finance along with a £5,000 per year stipend towards study costs. Should an applicant’s immigration status change during their studies, eligibility will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and students are required to inform the Scholarships Team immediately.
The University of Glasgow is one of the world’s leading research-intensive universities, founded in 1451 and ranked consistently among the top institutions globally. As a designated University of Sanctuary, Glasgow is deeply committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for those seeking refuge, and this scholarship reflects that commitment directly. The university offers an extraordinarily wide range of programmes spanning arts, sciences, engineering, medicine, law, business, and the social sciences across its beautiful campus in the heart of Glasgow, Scotland.

Selection Criteria
The University of Glasgow Sanctuary Scholarship evaluates applicants based on a combination of academic potential and personal circumstances, with the primary aim of identifying individuals who demonstrate genuine ambition and determination to pursue higher education despite the significant challenges that come with seeking sanctuary. Applicants are assessed on the strength of their application to an eligible University of Glasgow programme, as well as the authenticity and completeness of their supporting immigration documentation. Since the scholarship is designed specifically for those unable to access mainstream funding routes, financial need and immigration status play a central role in the selection process.
