The Ibrahim Leadership Fellowships were established in 2011 by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation to identify and mentor the next generation of outstanding African leaders. Each year, three Fellows have the opportunity to work in the executive offices of the African Development Bank (AfDB, Abidjan), the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA, Addis Ababa), or the International Trade Centre (ITC, Geneva), with a stipend of $100,000. Over the 12-month programme, Fellows gain both technical and leadership skills while contributing directly to research and policy design, with a special feature being direct mentorship from the heads of the host organisations. Fellows also become members of the Now Generation Network (NGN), through which they continue to contribute their skills and insights to building a better Africa.
The Mo Ibrahim Foundation is dedicated to supporting good governance and exceptional leadership on the African continent, and runs the Fellowships alongside its Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership and its Ibrahim Scholarships, which support aspiring African leaders at a number of distinguished academic institutions. Applications for the 2027 Fellowships are currently open through each host organisation’s own recruitment channels.
