The Katholischer Akademischer Ausländer-Dienst (KAAD) is the scholarship foundation of the German Catholic Church, committed to empowering talented postgraduate students and researchers from developing and emerging regions of the world. Its mission is to foster academic growth, intercultural dialogue, and leadership by supporting individuals from Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, as well as Eastern and Southeastern Europe. Through its scholarship programs, KAAD seeks to provide more than financial assistance; it also offers a strong academic and spiritual network that helps scholars excel in their studies and equips them to contribute meaningfully to the development of their home countries after graduation. This vision reflects KAAD’s broader goal of strengthening global cooperation, promoting social responsibility, and building bridges between cultures and religions.
To achieve its mission, KAAD has developed several scholarship programs tailored to different applicant profiles and regions. Programme 1 offers Invitation, In-country, and Third-country scholarships for postgraduates with professional experience who wish to pursue Master’s, PhD, or post-doctoral research in Germany or other select countries. Programme 2 supports international Master’s or PhD students already studying in Germany, with applications handled through Catholic University Chaplaincies (KHG/KSG). The Eastern Europe Programme focuses on students and researchers from Eastern and Southeastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Caucasus, providing opportunities for Master’s, PhD, or short-term research stays in Germany. Through these initiatives, KAAD ensures that its scholarships meet the diverse needs of students worldwide while promoting academic excellence and intercultural dialogue.
