The University of Nottingham offers prestigious Rolls-Royce–sponsored postgraduate scholarships through its University Technology Centre in Manufacturing and On-Wing Technology. These scholarships support three-year doctoral projects addressing advanced engineering challenges in partnership with Rolls-Royce. Areas of research include laser beam processing of aerospace materials, stiffness-adjustable robotic systems, intelligent sensing and robot control, soft robotics for on-wing inspection, and micromechanics of aerospace materials. Successful candidates receive full tuition coverage and a generous tax-free stipend, while also benefiting from dual academic and industrial supervision. The programme provides valuable hands-on training with Rolls-Royce specialists and real-world exposure to industry, preparing scholars for impactful careers in both research and engineering practice.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants should:

  • Hold at least a first-class or upper second-class honours degree in a relevant subject (Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Robotics, Mechatronics, etc.).
  •  Graduates finishing their degrees in July 2025 are also encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants are generally expected to be UK candidates, but exceptionally strong international applicants demonstrating a high degree of suitability for the role may be considered.
