The Doha Institute for Graduate Studies is an independent higher education institution in Qatar, established in 2015. It offers a wide range of Master’s and PhD programmes through the School of Social Sciences & Humanities and the School of Economics, Administration & Public Policy. The institute emphasizes interdisciplinary research, a student-centred learning approach, and upholds high academic, ethical, and professional standards. Instruction is primarily in Arabic, with fluency in English also required. In 2023, the institute earned full institutional accreditation by the UK’s Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), becoming the first such institution in Qatar to do so without conditions.
The institute provides substantial financial support for postgraduate students through scholarship schemes such as the Tamim and Sanad programmes. These scholarships are designed to attract highly qualified students from Qatar and abroad by covering tuition fees, accommodation, stipends, health insurance, and in some cases, travel allowances. The Tamim scholarship is principally merit-based, while the Sanad scholarship considers financial need as well as merit. Students must maintain good academic standing to retain their scholarships, though it is worth noting that executive master’s, diplomas, or specialized certificate programmes are not covered under these funding opportunities.
