Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a candidate from a Developing Country according to the classification of the DAAD
  • Hold qualifications equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Have at least two years of practical work experience (e.g., with an NGO, governmental organization, or the private sector) in a field related to the study programme
  • Have graduated with the Bachelor’s degree no longer than six years ago
  • Not have completed another Master’s degree in a similar field of studies
  • Be aiming at a career as a practitioner in a field related to the programme of study (not purely academic career)
  • Demonstrate strong academic performance and potential for contributing to sustainable development
  • Meet the general eligibility criteria for the Master’s programme at University of Bonn

Selection Criteria

The selection process for the UNU EPOS Scholarship is conducted by an independent committee of experts who assess applicants based on their academic qualifications and educational background, including bachelor’s degree results, academic achievements, field relevance, and demonstrated capabilities in development-related subjects; professional work experience of at least two years in NGOs, government, or the private sector related to environmental risks, human security, or sustainable development; clearly defined career goals and development orientation that reflect a commitment to practical impact and alignment with the program’s objectives; the overall quality of application materials such as the motivation letter, professional references, academic writing sample, and Europass CV; demonstrated potential for impact and leadership through a commitment to addressing development challenges using interdisciplinary approaches; and the timeliness and completeness of the application, ensuring graduation within the last five years, no prior equivalent master’s degree, and submission of all required documents.
