The Arizona State University Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program Phase III marks a significant step in empowering young African leaders with the skills and knowledge needed to drive innovative and sustainable development on the continent. Building on the success of previous phases, this new chapter will engage 700 young adults between 2024-2030. The Program will support a range of pathways, including in-person and online degrees as well as English language learning delivered in partnership with African institutions, and certificates in fields such as supply chain management and global management.

Through these programs, ASU aims to equip African youth with the critical technological, entrepreneurial, and leadership skills required to thrive in a rapidly evolving global landscape. Recognizing the rapid evolution of the global digital economy, this program aims to equip African youth with the skills and knowledge necessary to lead in areas such as technology and sustainable innovation.

The MasterCard Foundation, in partnership with Arizona State University, will provide graduate scholarships to train 120 young African professionals at the master’s level for various programs over 5 years (2025-2030). This is a fully immersive and traditional on-campus 2-year master’s program with an emphasis on technology and innovation. For the 2026/2027 academic year, 30 scholarships are available for students admitted to various full-time, on-campus graduate programs.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Qualify academically for admission to the degree of their choice that includes English proficiency
  • Be a citizen of an African country
  • Be committed to ethical leadership and demonstrated engagement in their community
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 33 on or before the application deadline
  • Demonstrate a track record of leadership and service in their community
  • Demonstrate academic excellence and ambitions that exceed one’s financial resources
  • Have earned an undergraduate degree conferred by July 2026
  • Not have started or completed other graduate or masters degrees before August 2026
  • Be able to live in Kigali, Rwanda for the duration of the program
