Thanks to the generosity of the T. June and Simon K.C. Li Charitable Fund, travel awards are available for doctoral students studying History of Art to support travel and related expenses connected to their field research trips. The awards provide financial assistance of up to £2,500 per application to facilitate essential research travel for doctoral candidates pursuing their studies at Lincoln College, University of Oxford. Preference will be given to students pursuing DPhil degrees in the field of Chinese Art History.

The Simon and June Li Annual Travel Awards reflect the College’s commitment to supporting advanced research in the humanities, particularly in the field of Art History, by removing financial barriers to essential fieldwork and research travel.

These awards enable doctoral researchers to conduct critical field research, visit archives and collections, attend conferences, and engage with scholarly communities necessary for completing high-quality doctoral dissertations. By providing financial support for research-related travel, the awards ensure that students can pursue their research objectives regardless of personal financial constraints.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this award, applicants must:

  • Be enrolled as a doctoral student at Lincoln College, University of Oxford
  • Be studying History of Art at the DPhil level
  • Preference will be given to students pursuing DPhil degrees in the field of Chinese Art History
  • Have a clear need for research travel related to field research
  • Not apply retrospectively – applications must be submitted before travel commences
  • Not exceed £5,000 in total awards across multiple applications during the course of study
