The British Council Women in STEM Scholarships 2026–2027 is a highly competitive, fully funded program established to tackle the underrepresentation of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). It offers talented women from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds the opportunity to pursue one-year master’s degree programs at leading universities and research institutions across the UK. Despite evidence showing that women are, on average, eight percent more productive than their male counterparts, they remain significantly underrepresented in STEM fields—occupying fewer positions in the workforce and research teams, publishing less frequently, earning lower pay, and seldom reaching leadership roles.
Through partnerships with 43 top UK universities, this scholarship initiative aims to expand educational access for women in STEM, cultivate female leadership in science and innovation, and foster a more inclusive, gender-balanced global STEM community. Since its launch, the program has awarded 493 scholarships over six consecutive years, granting recipients the opportunity to study at some of the world’s most prestigious science and research institutions. The experience empowers scholars to advance their STEM careers and contribute to research, innovation, and development within their home countries.
