The Gates Cambridge Scholarship is one of the most prestigious international scholarship programs in the world, offering full-cost scholarships to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. Established in October 2000 by a donation of US$210 million from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to the University of Cambridge—the largest ever single donation to a UK university—the program welcomed its first class of scholars in October 2001.

Each year, Gates Cambridge offers approximately 80 full-cost scholarships to exceptional candidates. Approximately two-thirds of these awards are offered to PhD students, with approximately 25 awards available in the US round and 55 available in the International round. Currently, there are about 250 scholars from over 50 countries studying at Cambridge, engaging in a wide array of subjects across the university’s departments and colleges.
