The Arbour Foundation PhD and DBA Scholarship is a prestigious scholarship program designed to provide financial support to rising stars pursuing doctoral degrees in Quebec, Canada. The Foundation’s mission is to contribute to Quebec’s economic growth through education by supporting exceptional doctoral students in Engineering, Computer Science, and Administration programs. This unique scholarship offers a jumpstart to professional success for students enrolled at partner universities across Quebec, enabling them to reach their full potential while contributing to the province’s academic and economic development through advanced research and innovation.
Through this scholarship program, recipients gain comprehensive financial support while studying at one of eleven prestigious partner universities in Quebec: Bishop’s University, Concordia University, École de technologie supérieure, HEC Montréal, Institut national de la recherche scientifique, McGill University, Polytechnique Montréal, Université de Montréal, Université de Sherbrooke, Université du Québec à Montréal, and Université Laval. The Foundation also provides French language support, mentoring programs, and networking events to facilitate cultural integration and success in Quebec’s society and economy.
Benefits of the Scholarship
This scholarship provides comprehensive support including:
- $30,000 CAD total scholarship value.
- Disbursed in two equal installments ($15,000 in fall semester, $15,000 in winter semester).
- Free French language courses for students with limited or no French proficiency (fully subsidized by Arbour Foundation).

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Be enrolled full-time in a doctoral (PhD or DBA) program at one of the partner universities.
- Have completed at least 2 full-time semesters in a Quebec university in the past 12 months.
- Have a university average grade of at least 75% (cumulative average of the last diploma obtained or of the last session(s) of the current diploma).
- Have at least two full semesters remaining in the program at the time of first scholarship installment (one fall and one winter semester).
- Be studying in Engineering, Computer Science, or Administration domains.

Selection Criteria
The Arbour Foundation evaluates candidates using the following weighted criteria:

The selection committees evaluate candidates through application materials and selection interviews. Academic excellence is the primary consideration, followed by demonstrated financial need and strong research capabilities. The ability to apply previous learning and skills, along with social involvement or leadership qualities, are also assessed to identify doctoral students with exceptional potential for research contributions and professional success. Selection committees evaluate French skills during selection interviews.
