The Northeast Forestry University (NEFU) Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Overseas Students was established to further promote the development of school education for foreign students and to encourage and support more outstanding foreign students to come to the school to learn. This scholarship, also known as the “Gold Student Scholarship,” aims to constantly improve the school’s international atmosphere and international influence.

Northeast Forestry University, located in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, is one of China’s key universities under the Ministry of Education’s “211 Project” and “Double First Class” initiative. The university is renowned for its forestry and ecological sciences programs and has developed into a comprehensive institution offering programs across multiple disciplines. With a total scholarship fund of RMB 300,000 per year, NEFU is committed to attracting talented international students from around the world.

The evaluation of scholarships adheres to the principle of “fair, fair, open and preferred” and is selected once a year through a differential selection process. The scholarship is available for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students across all professional programs at NEFU, with the scope covering up to 30% of the number of students at the school’s own expense.

Benefits of the Scholarship

This scholarship provides financial support with three levels of awards:

First Class Scholarship:

Undergraduate students: RMB 20,000 per academic year
Master’s students: RMB 28,000 per academic year
PhD students: RMB 36,000 per academic year

Second Class Scholarship:

Undergraduate students: RMB 15,000 per academic year
Master’s students: RMB 23,000 per academic year
PhD students: RMB 31,000 per academic year

Third Class Scholarship:

Undergraduate students: RMB 8,000 per academic year
Master’s students: RMB 11,000 per academic year
PhD students: RMB 16,000 per academic year

General benefits:

Total annual scholarship fund: RMB 300,000
Access to all professional programs at Northeast Forestry University
Study in Harbin, known as “Ice City” with unique cultural experience

The scholarship funds can be used to cover:

Accommodation
Food and daily necessities
Books and study materials

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

Have foreign nationality and hold a valid foreign passport
Be physically and mentally healthy
Demonstrate friendly attitude toward China
Show excellent character and learning
Be applying for or currently enrolled in a degree program at Northeast Forestry University
For current NEFU students: Have good academic performance with grades and comprehensive evaluation ranking in the top 30% of academic program or major
Demonstrate good conduct with no violation of Chinese laws and regulations or school rules
NOT be receiving scholarships from the Chinese government or other countries and organizations

Selection Criteria

The selection committee undertakes a comprehensive evaluation that emphasizes strong academic performance, typically ranking within the top 30% of the applicant’s major or program, alongside demonstrated integrity, good conduct, and a clean disciplinary record. Candidates must also possess sound physical and mental health suitable for academic study and exhibit a positive, respectful attitude toward China and its culture. In addition, the committee considers each applicant’s overall suitability in relation to NEFU’s international education objectives and ensures compliance with scholarship regulations, including confirmation that the candidate is not concurrently receiving financial support from the Chinese government or other sponsoring organizations.
