Selection Criteria
The selection process follows a two-stage system involving both Cardiff University and the China Scholarship Council (CSC). In the first stage, Cardiff University schools nominate candidates by January 19, 2026, based on outstanding academic achievement, demonstrated research potential, the quality and feasibility of the proposed doctoral research, alignment with Cardiff’s research strengths, and endorsement from a prospective supervisor. Each candidate’s overall suitability for the PhD program is assessed holistically before nomination. In the second stage, the CSC reviews Cardiff’s nominations and evaluates applicants according to academic merit, research potential, consistency with China’s national development priorities, the quality of Cardiff’s nomination, and the overall strength of the application before finalizing scholarship awards.
