The Australian National University (ANU) Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend Scholarship 2026 is a prestigious fully funded scholarship program established by the Commonwealth Department of Education and Training to support exceptional domestic and international students undertaking Higher Degree by Research (HDR) programs at one of Australia’s leading research universities. The RTP Stipend provides comprehensive financial support enabling students to focus entirely on their research without financial constraints, covering living expenses through generous fortnightly stipend payments while pursuing doctoral or research master’s degrees in fields aligned with ANU’s research strengths. The university conducts two annual scholarship rounds with Round 1 offering the largest number of scholarships for commencements between January and March of the following year, while Round 2 provides additional opportunities for mid-year commencements between April and August.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Be applying for or enrolled in a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program at ANU (PhD or Research Master’s)
- Meet ANU’s academic admission requirements for HDR programs
For International Students:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree with First Class Honours or equivalent, OR
- Hold a master’s degree with a substantial research component
- Meet English language requirements (IELTS overall 6.5 with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 80 with minimum scores in each section, or equivalent)
For Domestic Students:
- Be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or New Zealand citizen
- Hold a bachelor’s degree with First Class Honours or equivalent, OR
- Hold a master’s degree with a substantial research component
General Requirements:
- Demonstrate strong academic merit with excellent academic records throughout previous studies
- Have secured or be in the process of securing a qualified ANU supervisor in your proposed research area
- Proposed research must be aligned with ANU’s research strategy and priorities
- Availability of space and resources in your chosen research area
- For current ANU HDR students: must have been enrolled for less than one year full-time equivalent
