Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Be a resident citizen of a member state of the African Union or African Commonwealth countries (Mauritian nationals are NOT eligible)
- Must have already applied for a full-time on-campus program at a public Higher Education Institution in Mauritius for the academic year starting in 2026
For Diploma and Undergraduate Degree Programs:
- Be above 18 years of age and not have reached 26th birthday by January 1, 2027
- Hold appropriate secondary education qualifications for university admission
For MPhil, MPhil/PhD, and PhD Programs:
- Be under 40 years of age by January 1, 2027
- For PhD programs: Hold a first-class undergraduate degree from a recognized university OR an MPhil degree and meet the requirements of the awarding institution
- For MPhil/PhD programs: Hold a recognized undergraduate degree with at least upper second class honors (or CGPA greater than 60%) and preferably a master’s degree, meeting the requirements of the Higher Education Institution
Language Requirements:
- Proficiency in English or French (Mauritius is bilingual)
- Language proficiency requirements vary by institution and program
Additional Requirements:
- Strong academic records throughout previous studies
- Good health status and vaccination requirements (vaccinated students are granted access to higher education institutions in Mauritius; medical exemptions require certified medical certificates)

Selection Criteria
The Mauritius Africa Scholarship Scheme follows a rigorous, multi-tiered selection process designed to identify academically outstanding and development-oriented students from across Africa. Applications are first screened and endorsed by each country’s official nominating agency—usually the Ministry of Education—which may forward up to fifteen candidates across all program levels to the Government of Mauritius for final consideration.
