Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

Be a citizen of any country in the world (all nationalities welcome)
Be a non-Chinese citizen in good health
Apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC Type A – Bilateral Program) through home country’s Chinese embassy, consulate, or designated national education authority

For Bachelor’s degree applicants: Have a high school diploma with good academic performance and be under 25 years old
For Master’s degree applicants: Hold a Bachelor’s degree and be under 35 years old
For PhD degree applicants: Hold a Master’s degree and be under 40 years old

Meet language proficiency requirements: HSK certificate for Chinese-taught programs or English proficiency certificate (IELTS/TOEFL) for English-taught programs
Students studying in Chinese with only HSK Level 4 certificate eligible for 1 year of Chinese language training before degree program

Have strong academic records demonstrating intellectual capability and research potential

Applicants must also submit well-structured study plans that specify their intended degree level and major, outline academic goals, and demonstrate research interests aligned with USTB’s programs. Language proficiency is required—HSK for Chinese-taught programs or English proficiency for English-taught programs—with allowances made for applicants who provide temporary explanations for missing certificates.
