The University of Waterloo International Student Entrance Scholarship is a new automatic award valued at $10,000, available to all eligible international fee-paying students admitted to full-time, first-year degree studies starting in September 2026, with no application required. The scholarship is disbursed in two equal instalments of $5,000, with the first available in late July to assist with first-term tuition and the second in late November to assist with second-term tuition, making it a practical and immediate form of financial support for incoming international students. In addition to this entrance scholarship, eligible students may also be considered for Waterloo’s President’s and Merit Scholarships, faculty-specific scholarships, and a wide range of additional awards, with no limits on the number of students who can receive the entrance scholarship as long as eligibility criteria are met.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following:
- Must be an international fee-paying student admitted to a full-time first-year degree programme at the University of Waterloo starting in September 2026
- Must be enrolled full-time in three or more courses in both the first and second terms at Waterloo
- Must continue to be an international fee-paying student and be required to pay international study permit tuition fees throughout the scholarship period
- Must meet the conditions of the Offer of Admission; no specific grade point average is required beyond the minimum admission requirements
- The scholarship is not available to Medical Sciences and Doctor of Medicine students, Bachelor of Social Work, Doctor of Optometry, Doctor of Pharmacy students, transfer students admitted with transfer credits, students who deferred admission from September 2025 to September 2026, and students enrolled in 2+2 or similar x+y programmes

Selection Criteria
The International Student Entrance Scholarship is automatically granted to all eligible international fee-paying students admitted to full-time first-year degree programmes at the University of Waterloo starting in September 2026, with no competitive selection process, no application required, and no limits on the number of recipients, provided that students meet the conditions of their Offer of Admission and continue to be enrolled full-time as international fee-paying students throughout both terms of their first year.
