The Developing Solutions Masters Scholarship is the University of Nottingham’s flagship international Master’s scholarship, established in 2001 and now one of the most respected and widely sought-after scholarship programmes for students from Africa, South Asia, and selected Commonwealth countries in the United Kingdom. Awarded at either 50% or 100% of full-time Master’s tuition fees, the scholarship is designed for innovative, driven, and socially conscious students who can clearly demonstrate a compelling vision and tangible plan for developing specific solutions to key economic, environmental, structural, social, or political challenges in their home country — and who can credibly connect this vision to the learning outcomes of their chosen Master’s programme at Nottingham.
The University of Nottingham is one of the United Kingdom’s leading research universities, consistently ranked among the world’s top 150 universities in major global rankings including the QS World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, and a member of the prestigious Russell Group of research-intensive UK universities. With campuses in Nottingham (UK), Ningbo (China), and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Nottingham is one of the few truly tri-continental universities in the world — home to over 45,000 students from more than 150 countries and internationally recognised for its excellence in engineering, medicine, health sciences, science, social sciences, business, and the arts.

Selection Criteria
Applicants will be assessed first and foremost on how they can demonstrate their vision, and tangible plan for developing a specific solution that will positively contribute to key economic, environmental, structural, social, or political challenges within in their home country. Strong applicants will be able to link this to the learning outcomes of their course of study, and how this will facilitate their efforts. Where the ethos of Developing Solutions has been clearly evidenced, applications will then be looked at in line with more traditional scholarship criteria, including your reasons for studying at Nottingham and noteworthy achievements.
Make sure you have enough time to prepare strong answers. We will assess your responses and academic merit when making scholarship decisions.
Please note that there is a strict word count limit for all questions, which is outlined at the end of each question. The system does not automatically limit this, so you would be encouraged to check your application before you submit. Any responses submitted that exceed the outlined word count may not be reviewed.
