The Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships are a prestigious, fully funded scholarship programme offered by the New Zealand Government through Education New Zealand to support outstanding students from eligible Pacific and Asian countries in pursuing tertiary education at New Zealand institutions or select Pacific universities. Covering undergraduate, postgraduate diploma, Master’s, and PhD levels of study, the scholarships are designed to build the human capital and development capacity of eligible countries by supporting scholars to study in fields that are most relevant to their home country’s social and economic needs including renewable energy, agriculture, disaster risk management, public sector development, and private sector growth. The comprehensive funding package covers full tuition fees, a weekly living allowance of NZ$615, an establishment allowance of NZ$3,000, medical and travel insurance, international travel to and from New Zealand at the start and end of the scholarship, travel home during the scholarship period, and financial assistance with research and thesis costs for postgraduate students.
Education New Zealand (ENZ) also known by its Māori name Manapou ki te Ao is the New Zealand Government agency responsible for building the international profile and reputation of New Zealand education. ENZ administers the Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship Programme as part of New Zealand’s broader development cooperation and international relations objectives, reflecting the country’s deep commitment to supporting sustainable development across the Pacific and Asia.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following:
- Must be a citizen of an eligible country
- Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of commencing the
- Must not hold New Zealand citizenship, permanent residency, or a New Zealand residency class visa
- Must not currently be residing in New Zealand or another country other than the applicant’s home country (with limited exceptions)
- Must propose to study in a field that is strongly aligned with the priority development needs of the applicant’s home country, as defined by the Manaaki scholarship preferred subject list for each country
- Must intend to study full-time at one of the eleven approved New Zealand educational institutions (eight universities or three institutes of technology) or at an approved Pacific university
- Must complete the online eligibility questionnaire on the official Manaaki scholarship website before submitting a full application
- Must submit a full application

Selection Criteria
The Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship selection process is competitive and rigorous, conducted by Education New Zealand in partnership with the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
