The UniBE Short Travel Grants for (Post)Docs are offered by the Vice-Rectorate International and Academic Careers at the University of Bern to fund short research stays abroad for doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers. The grants cover travel and accommodation costs for field research, research at universities or other research institutions, and scientific work in libraries, scientific collections, archives and laboratories. The maximum funding amount is CHF 7,000 per application for stays within Europe and CHF 8,000 for stays outside Europe. There are two application deadlines per year, on March 1 and September 1, and applicants are advised to schedule the start of their planned research stay no earlier than two months after the respective application deadline to avoid financial risk in the event of a rejected application. A research stay must be commenced at the latest six months from the date of notification of approval.

The University of Bern is one of Switzerland’s leading research universities, founded in 1834 and located in the Swiss capital city of Bern. The university supports a vibrant international research community across eight faculties and is committed to fostering the academic and professional development of early career researchers through a range of dedicated funding schemes. The UniBE Short Travel Grants reflect the university’s dedication to enabling doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers to develop their research projects through meaningful international research experiences. Participation in summer or winter schools, scientific conferences and scientific method courses is possible in combination with a qualifying short research stay, though such activities will not be supported as a standalone activity.
