The PhD Student Position in Fisheries Ecology is a fully funded graduate research assistantship offered through the Fisheries Ecology and Ecosystem Dynamics (FEED) Lab of Dr. Jeff Plumlee at Louisiana State University (LSU). One PhD student will be recruited to conduct funded research broadly investigating the ecological relationships of fishery-important species and the human dimensions surrounding their respective fisheries. Funding for projects is primarily tied to the trophic impacts of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) on estuarine fish and invertebrate communities. The student will work closely with state agencies, recreational and commercial fishers, and academic collaborators, and will use a variety of research techniques including natural biogeochemical markers, long-term fishery-independent data analysis, manipulative field experimentation, and mail and internet surveys.
Louisiana State University (LSU) is a flagship public research university located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA. Founded in 1860, LSU is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities and is consistently ranked among the top public research universities in the United States. The university is home to world-class programs in agriculture, natural resources, engineering, and the sciences, and is renowned for its strong industry and government partnerships. The FEED Lab at LSU’s AgriLife Center reflects the university’s commitment to advancing fisheries science and producing research that benefits both ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.
